Ontario and British Columbia are the most popular destinations for immigrants, According to the 2001 census, roughly 26 percent of the population were foreign born, while in Newfoundland and Labrador only 1.6 percent of the population was foreign born.
Popular cities for immigrants are Toronto, with a foreign born population of 43% (2001 census), followed by Vancouver with 37%. Next come several others from Ontario, like Hamilton 23%, Windsor and Kitchener 22%.
