Dutch Canadian Agricultural Exchange

After World War 2 a group of Veterans started a farm labor exchange program between Canada and The Netherlands. Over the years many young farmers came to Canada for a year. Many stayed and became successful Canadians.

This program gives young Dutch people between the ages of 18 and 30 a chance to become familiar with Canadian agricultural methods. It also gives young Canadian students an opportunity to work in The Netherlands.

All segments of the agricultural industry are included and trainees can be authorized for 2 - 4 months (students) and up to one (1) year (young farmers.)

This program is administered by STICHTING UITWISSELING, Kanata, Ontario.

Because of their years of experience, Stichting Uitwisseling in The Netherlands is an expert in arranging exchanges for young people.

They have an extensive network of contacts in Holland as well as in Canada.

Besides finding you a suitable place to work, they can arrange all the paper work needed. If you have your own contact they also will be able to assist you with all the needed documents.

Our Experience

My husband Frank came over as a young farmer on a temporary work permit in the early 70's. Everything was arranged for him by the program. In Canada, the Canadian representative arranges for the young men in the program to meet and socialize.

During the last 25 years we have worked with them many times as a host to young exchange students. If there was a problem, Stichting Uitwisseling, or personnel from The Dutch Consulate were very willing to assist in solving the problem.

Many of the young men and women who came to Canada on a temporary work permit, decided to make Canada their permanent home and are now successful Canadian citizens.
